The Efficacy of Functional Composts Manufactured Using Spent Coffee Ground, Rice Bran, Biochar, and Functional Microorganisms

Spent coffee grounds (SCGs), one of the world’s most discarded wastes, may be an excellent resource as organic fertilizer because its richness in nutrients. The objective this study was to develop a quality functional compost using SCGs, rice bran, biochar, SCG extract, and microbes (plant growth promoting plant pathogen-suppression bacteria), then test their efficacy for potential commercial application. Essentially, two types representative composts (Tr_1 Tr_5 on laboratory pilot scale, respectively) were developed passed all official standards. For pilot-scale composting, populations Halotalea_uc, Corynebacterium nuruki, Lactobacillus acidipiscis increased by augmentation composting (MA-1) (Bacillus cereus SB-3, Bacillus toyonensis SB-4, Streptomyces sasae St-3). higher total flavonoid content (11% increase compared control) pepper leaves PT-1 TEAC (36.2%) PT-2 (32.5%) proved bioaugmented with microbes. seedling radish seeds treated St-3 biocontrol agent significantly despite presence pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae. phenol than control (Tr_4), whereas there no differences Tr_4 infested fungal pathogens, indicating that cultures amended within (Tr_5) facilitate production antioxidants absence pathogens. However, significant reduction (total phenolic TEAC) observed plants whose roots infected pathogens could neutralize functionalities It concluded enhancement would aid biological soil environment. Further studies are necessary terms mechanisms growth-promotion, suppression actinobacterial agents, interactions between mechanisms, well composts.
